Are You Aware
Ancis and Szymanski in their article present arguments that imply that society is still in deep denial about the far reaching aspects of white privilege. They state, “For White counselors, self-awareness includes acknowledging their own racists attitudes and beliefs…” I believe that one main reason society has not acknowledged the existence of white privilege is because the language used to describe such privilege is presented in such a way where many people can not receive it. Most of society does not see itself as racist. For many the idea that there is white privilege would require them to admit a level of inequality does exist and if they do admit that, the question becomes would they also then be forced to admit that racial discrimination also occurs?
