Baby Ends Up With Cerebral Palsy

In this post we examine a report concerning a case arising out of a Group B Strep infection. Here, two physicians made tragic errors. First, the obstetrician who delivered the baby failed to take any action despite the fact that the baby presented with symptoms consistent with a Group B Strep infection.

This same physician thus did not report the existence of the worrisome signs to any of the physicians who would care for the child after transfer to the nursery. To compound the problem, the pediatrician who made rounds at the nursery likewise failed to take any action even though the baby was in respiratory distress.

In only a few hours, the newborn suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest and subsequently ended up with cerebral palsy. As announced by the law firm that helped the family with this case, the family resolve the matter for $5.7 Million
