They have a house salad dressing at just about every Italian restaurant I have been to. Anyone know what it is
It is red in color. I has a tangy taste but a hint of sweet. Some of the Italian restaurants call it their house Italian Vinaigrette and some call it Red Vinaigrette. Does any one have a good recipe for something similar? I have always eaten Ranch dressing and not a fan of any other but I really do like this dressing.
I know! I really don’t like those other salad dressings so I alwasy get ranch, that is, until I found this recipe!
Tomato Basil Vinaigrette
1/2 c Tomato juice
2 tb Olive oil
1 ts Sugar
1 tb vinegar (Balsamic)
1 ts Dijon mustard
1 garlic clove, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tb Basil, chopped fine
2 tb Parmesan, fresh grated
1.Combine all ingredients except basil and cheese in a blender and process until smooth. Stir in basil and cheese. Chill before using.
this dressing is usually different at each restaurant but it sounds like a red-wine vinegarette. Try using red-wine vinegar instead of white vinegar in your italian dressing recipe.

If you want a sweet dressing you can buy Catalina, it’s sort of like french dressing but is much sweeter and thicker. Probably very fattening. It’s not a vinaigrette, but if you are just looking for something sweet then you will like the Catalina
