Healthy pasta dishes at Italian restaurants?
Hi. I was wondering if there are any low carb pasta dishes out there at Italian restaurants such as Olive Garden, Fazilo’s, and Macorini Grill that aren’t loaded with calories. If so, what are they? I’m not trying to lose weight or anything, just maintain my healthy weight.
I notice some restaurants offer whole wheat pasta. Are the carbs in whole wheat pasta good carbs that are healthier then the ones in ordinary pasta?
You can get whole wheat pasta or gluten free pasta at many of these locations. Both are easy on the carbs. Those are not always low on calories but the carbs can give you a rush and a bouncing glucose level isn’t good for you. As a rule, stay away from the creamy sauces and salad dressings, stick to the primavera like another poster mentioned or marinara sauce, or just tossed with some olive oil. The dishes with chicken are good provided it is white meat and lean beef as well (spaghetti and meat balls or meat sauce or marinara sauce is a fair choice and is easily split up and eaten later. .
One suggestion, order one of the soups (non creamy soup) and then separate your main dish in half and take that half home;
Although one or two are OK, sadly, the bread sticks are a serious problem.
Most of the desserts are a big problem to a point that a scoop of ice cream or sorbet / sorbeto is better for you.
I’m not sure about the dishes at these specific restaurants, but Pasta Primavera is always a good choice for healthy eating.
