Small wedding reception in Chicago and Suburbs? Any nice steakhouses or Italian restaurants?

My fiance and I are planning a possible wedding this late summer/early fall, and because of the economy and cost of living, the way to truly live is no longer enjoyable… So, we’ve reduced our plans and now want a wedding of about 40-50 people. Any suggestions? We’ve ruled Maggiano’s out.. they’re overpriced.. and if people want liqour they can buy their own.. Please help! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I’m not sure where in the suburbs you are, but is there a Leona’s near you? I know there used to be one in Homewood that did large parties, but I heard that they are closed now. But, Leonas does have great italian food if you can find one with the space, and they offer the option of family-style meals, which makes the cost factor easier, too.

I don’t know if I can help you in the steakhouse area…

  2. Have a back-yard BBQ! Decorate all pretty with fresh garden flowers, set up several round tables. Play music, have a little cake, and grill out. Its fun and relaxing…yet still festive and reception-worthy.

    Have:

Make sure you have some family members make different hor’dourves for the event.

    -Hamburgers
    -Hotdogs
    -Chicken

with macorrni, green beans, and watermelon.

    And for desert… WEDDING CAKE!

I wish we would have done this. Instead, we had 350+ people at a huge reception and wedding. Laid back is much better in the end FOR EVERYONE! I hardly remember my big day!

    GOOD LUCK!

  3. There are a lot of good places, especially if you are open to the city and not limited to the burbs. Check out http://www.theknot.com and look for reception sites or restaurants in your area. Also try searching in Glenview and Schaumburg some great steakhouses there.

We’re looking in the nw burbs for a place for a rehearsal dinner. We love Ruth’s Chris. It may be pricy but the food is amazing!
