Asian people cooking at Mexican Restaurant?

A chef/cook is a chef/cook is a chef/cook. A person’s ethnicity has nothing to do with what they cook.

  3. I don’t think this question is racist or derogatory just a comment on a real social phenomena.

I think the basis for this question and why it is unusual is that often restaurants and kitchens are family busineses and people are free to just hire family and friends and of course they are most familiar with the particular cuisine.

My father is Ukrainian and a chef and he cooked in a Chinese restaurant – very unusual I think that they would give him the job.

  5. Yes, and as long as the food is good I could care less. I live in Italy, and have heard of Egyptians, Albanians, Maroccans, etc. cooking Italian food in Italian restuarants. Guess what? A lot of times they are better cooks than the Italians….opinion of my Italian friends.

  7. No, but this is NOT strange at all.

I know Chinese chefs in Singapore, Hong Kong win international culinary awards all the time in the Western cuisine category. Asian chefs are remarkably talented and have done extremely well in the culinary arts whatever the cuisine but I can’t say that for Caucasian chefs – not that they can’t, they generally do not stray from their traditional home cuisine.
