Restaurant delivery charges?
If a restaurant charges for delivery, should you deduct that charge from the tip you would have given the delivery person?
I don’t like the idea of delivery fees but the truth of the matter is that the restaurant needs it for maintenance of the vehicle like gas and tune ups stuff like to insure that they can continue to make deliveries, and it should never affect how much tip you give the driver because they have nothing to do with it and this is how they make a living, they are not getting the fee and if they are it’s to make sure the vehicle is in good running condition and for gas.
great question.
Wouldn’t it be easier to go to a joint that doesn’t charge a"delivery fee"?

No….the delivery charge is usually used for gas. By subtracting it from the tip you are stiffing the delivery person. What is a couple bucks anyways. Delivery people can refuse to deliver to you if you don’t tip well. Although this is not a good thing it happens.

No, because usually the restaurant takes the fee and doesn’t give it to the driver.

If a restaurant is charging their own delivery fee, that has nothing to do with the delivery person. You should not deduct the tip for that person’s work. Delivery people don’t make much money and depend on tips for giving us that personal service and doing us the favor by bringing food right to our door.
