The Difference Between HMO and PPO
Your employer, if they offer health insurance, chooses generally one of two plans; either a health maintenance organization (HMO) or a preferred provider organization (PPO). The main difference between the two types of insurance lies in the insurance company’s network. With an HMO, you would only be covered if you used the health professionals within the insurance company’s network. With a PPO, you can go outside of the insurance company’s network and get covered, but it wouldn’t be as much coverage as if you had sought service within the network. They wouldn’t pay as much of the health expenses if you go outside of the plan.
